DataLion supports you with the questionnaire through two AI features: “Create survey with AI” builds a complete draft from a short description, and “Optimize with AI” refines an existing questionnaire.

Create survey with AI

Describe your topic – the AI generates a complete questionnaire from it, with:

• a title as well as a welcome and thank-you text,
• typed questions with the right question type for each question,
• balanced scales and
• a sensible page layout.

Instead of sitting in front of an empty editor, you start with a well-thought-out draft that you only need to fine-tune. Which question types are available is described under Create a survey: the question types in DataLion.

Optimize with AI – your variable codes are preserved

If you already have a draft, “Optimize with AI” reworks wording, answer options and structure – for clearer, more neutral questions and more complete scales.

Crucially: the optimization keeps your variable codes. Your later dataset therefore stays compatible. This is especially important for ongoing trackers, when a questionnaire only needs to be sharpened linguistically without losing comparability across the waves.

Continue as usual after the AI

The AI draft is a fully fledged DataLion questionnaire. You can

• adjust questions and options,
• add skip and display logic,
• adjust the design and
• then publish the survey.

Tip: Always review AI-generated questions from a methodological standpoint – for neutral wording, complete answer scales and the right base. The AI delivers a strong starting point, but the methodological responsibility remains with you.
