DataLion translates an entire project with AI into more than 65 languages: the codebook with variable and value labels, project, report, tab and chart titles, text widgets and — optionally — open-ended answers. Multilingual usually costs one project copy per language
- Every language gets its own duplicate of the project — and from the second wave onwards the copies drift apart.

What the AI translates — and what you choose yourself
Translation starts in the codebook: pick a source language (or let it be detected), select several target languages at once and tick which content should travel.
The codebook covers variable and value labels — exactly the texts your axes, legends and filter lists are built from. Reports and text widgets cover project, report and tab names, screen and chart titles with their subtitles, and rich-text widgets whose formatting is preserved.
Open-ended answers are deliberately optional and selected per text variable, so you never accidentally translate tens of thousands of verbatims.

One project version, many language layers
This is the real difference: DataLion creates no second project. Translations sit as a language layer over the same one — same data, same filters, same wave logic, different labels.
Viewers switch the content language themselves from a globe menu in the header. It appears only when the project actually has more than one language — and it works on dashboards shared by link too.
Content language is independent of the interface language: the DataLion UI ships in six languages, content in more than 65. When a label has no translation yet, DataLion quietly shows the original instead of a gap.

The AI writes the draft, you keep the last word
Machine translation is a draft — especially for technical terms and brand names. So every translation stays editable: right in the codebook grid, in the language columns next to Label and Short label.
For bigger review rounds there is the Excel round trip: export the codebook with its language columns, edit as a team, upload it again.
And if a title bothers you while reading a translated dashboard, just change it there — DataLion stores that as a manual translation, not as a change to the original. Under the default policy, "only missing or outdated translations", those corrections survive every later run.

The second run only translates what is new
Translation is not a one-off: a new wave brings new items, a new country brings a new language. The default policy — "only missing or outdated translations" — therefore sends nothing but new or changed text to the model.
Identical texts are also collapsed: a label that appears in 200 places is translated once. The run itself happens in the background, with a progress bar per language, so you can keep working meanwhile.
For trackers that means the translation grows with the project instead of being paid for again every wave.

Translation uses the same AI connection as the rest of the platform, so you can point it at your own model and your own endpoint — see bring your own AI model — instead of being tied to one vendor.
The feature is admin-only, and every run is logged: who started it, which project, which languages, which scope.
